For those of you interested in data about the most popular free, paid and grossing apps on a daily, weekly, monthly, or quarterly level, Distimo’s leaderboards are a great resource for further research. Most Revenue Generating Apps

The top ten revenue generating apps in the Apple App Store in July remained almost the same as in June. Candy Crush Saga generated the most revenue of all apps for three months in a row now. Although the total generated revenue in July remained very close to that of Clash of Clans.

The Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle-earth reentered the top five in July at the expense of Minecraft, while Puzzles & Dragons and Hay Day swapped places. Hay Day is now ranked third, while Puzzle & Dragons occupies the fourth place.

In Google Play, Candy Crush Saga took over the position of パズル&ドラゴンズ(Puzzle & Dragons) and became the most generating app in July globally. LINE: Free Calls & Messages dropped in the top grossing chart to the fourth spot. LINE Corporation is well represented in the top ten with four apps.
One new entry linked to Kakao, entered at rank three in the top ten in July: 모두의마블 for Kakao by CJ E&M corp.

Global Top Publishers Generated Revenue

For the Apple App Store no new entries were seen in the July as the top ten grossing publishers. Supercell made the most revenue globally. Limited comes in second.
Both publishers gained their top positions with just two ranked apps, in the case of Supercell (Clash of Clans and Hay Day) and three ranked apps in the case of Limited (Candy Crush Saga, Per Rescue Saga and Bubble Witch Saga).

For Google Play, LINE Corporation was on top. LINE Corporation has been on top for months now. LINE Corporation is followed by CJ E&M corp. and Mobage. Only new entry in the top ten is GREE, INC on rank 9.

The Apple App Store was still the larger market compared to Google Play in July 2013 in terms of total revenue. The Apple App Store was still twice as large as Google Play.

However, Google Play’s revenue has increased significantly over the past few months. It grew with 67% over the last six months and with 11% the last month. While the Apple App Store grew just 15% in the last six months and 3% the last month.

Country Sizes

The total revenue for the Apple App Store and Google Play per country ordered descending by total revenue is shown below. Overall, the United States spent the most money on apps, and was followed by Japan and South Korea, who were the main contributors to Google Play’s revenue.

A notable point is that in some countries, like Russia more money was spent in the Apple App Store for iPad than in the Apple App Store for iPhone, while overall more money was spent on iPhone apps.

New Apps One Million Downloads

How fast are new applications embraced by the public? How fast can they reach one million downloads? We looked at the most successful new applications by ranking how fast they reached the one million downloads milestone.
