As announced at the Google I/O conference last May, Google is now rolling out In-App Purchases for web applications. The in-app purchase business model is on the high-rise for mobile apps. Following the introduction of in-app purchases in the Android Market last March, this is now also available for web developers in the Chrome Web Store.
The revenue share for developers is 95%, in sharp contrast with the 70% for mobile apps. Consumers pay with a credit card. In-App Payments are initially available for developers with a United States bank account and for buyers in more than 140 countries.
Will the in-app model take off on web just as it is doing on mobile? We’ll be tracking the progress in the Chrome Web Store on this.
