Orange Application Shop Launching Tomorrow

Orange App Shop

Orange App Shop

Tomorrow during the Le Web that is being held in Paris, Orange will launch its Application Shop. The store will be available in various countries where Orange is active. Preceding the launch, there is already some information disclosed by the Orange Partner Network on the upcoming Application Shop. Here an overview of the most important facts:

Countries

The on-device App Shop client will initially be available for Orange customers in the UK and France, with more countries to follow. The WAP portal already supports Belgium and Spain.

Supported devices

The store will support applications for a selection of devices from BlackBerry, HTC, LG, Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson. The exact list of supported phones is expected tomorrow.

Access to the store

Orange customers will be able to access the store in three ways:
1) On-device App Shop client

Orange will pre-install the App Shop client on a selection of devices, so consumers will have access the moment they walk out an Orange store. For any suitable devices that are already out there, customers will be invited via SMS to install the new client over-the-air.

2) Orange’s existing mobile WAP portal.

3) Web storefront.

For developers

Developers that want to publish their applications in the Orange App Shop, can submit their apps free of charge here. Orange indicates that there will be a revenue split of paid applications, but does not provide the exact percentage yet. Consumers will be billed on their monthly telephone bill.

More details coming soon, when the Orange App Shop is launched tomorrow.
