China Mobile, the largest operator in China, is launching an app store. It’s called Mobile Market and said to go live on August 17.
The Mobile Market will be accessible with the upcoming Lenovo OPhone, with more models to follow. This phone uses a customized version of Android. Instead of using Google’s Android Market, China Mobile installs its own app store on these phones. The store will also support Symbian and Windows Mobile phones and will be pre-installed.
At launch, several thousand applications are said to be available and the developer revenue share for sold applications is 70%.
China Mobile has 415 million subscribers, which makes it the world’s largest operator based on subs. Not many details on the store are confirmed by China Mobile yet. We will track the announcements on the Mobile Market and will keep you posted.
